ON GOLF
Listen people,
Cam Young is that guy. He just went wire-to-wire to win another Signature Event. He bested the next best guy (Scottie) by 6 whole strokes.
CRAZY.
Scottie Scheffler is also better than everyone EXCEPT for one guy every single weekend.
It’s hard to win a golf tournament because not only do you have to play exceptionally well, you also have to count on every other elite golfer to NOT play out of their minds over a four-day stretch, which literally any of these guys can do on any given weekend.
Bummer for Scottie, YAY for Cam Young. Let me just say, these are my two guys. I said it months ago, I mean it still:

These two are my favorite guys on tour. Here’s how I think about each of them and what they’re doing:
Cam Young
We are witnessing something special. I believe we’re watching the emergence of a new great.
Is it the emergence of a new Scheffler-like great? I don’t think so, but only because time isn’t on his side.
The greatest of greats get a lot of work done early in their careers, and Cam Young turns 29 on Thursday. Scottie turns 30 this summer and has 20 wins to his name compared to Cam’s 3.
Cam is winning big events, but hasn’t captured a major. He’s captured American hearts with his gutsy play at the Ryder Cup, but again… just 3 wins to his name.
Could he win 3-5 events each year for the next 5 years? Sure. If he were to do that, we would be talking about him in the way we’ve been talking about Scottie for the last 2 years.
I would love to look up in 5 years and see Cam at 20 wins. That would be electric.
But we’re seeing how hard that is because Scottie is playing just as well as anyone if not better, and he’s come up one position short each of his last 3 events. It’s hard to win golf tournaments even when you’re the best player in the world.
Still, Cam Young is to be viewed as a top 3 golfer in the world, and I don’t think he’s 3. His and Rory’s play has been just about equal over the past couple years, but I view Cam as more of a threat each weekend. Maybe my American Nationalism is showing.
I think it’s Scottie, Cam, Rory. In that order.
Scottie Scheffler
I’m such an annoying Scottie truther hahaha. People will be like, wasn’t this week awesome? Good for Rory! Good for Fitz! Good for Cam!
And I’m like… yeah but Scottie *wah wah boo hoo*, I cry to myself.
Why am I like this? Why are SO many people like this?
I have a very simple answer: I want to witness greatness.
I want to see something that hasn’t been done since Tiger — pure dominance. And I think only Scottie can do in this era.
He has 20 wins. He’s inevitably a part of the action just about ever Sunday. If he could string together a couple more 5-win seasons, add in a few 3 win seasons, he’ll eclipse 40 and establish himself as one of the most accomplished golfers ever by his early to mid 30s. I WANT TO SEE IT. I can see a world where he finishes his career with 60+ wins on tour, and that would be insane. I WANT TO SEE IT. GIVE IT TO ME.
Plus, I admire his faith and his eternal perspective as a nice bonus.
I’m happy he’s stacking a bunch of top 5s and making a ton of money, but I want him to start ripping off some wins. I hope he wins the US Open and secures a Grand Slam of his own.
To Conclude
I think Scottie and Cam are 1 and 2, with Rory basically right there. I want to see these guys do things beyond what people believe is possible.
I want these guys to battle it out for the next 10 years, each of them getting 30 wins over the next decade. CAN A MAN NOT DREAM?
On to the Truist in Charlotte, NC. Scottie is out for this one, but Cam will get another crack at a big one, and he’ll have a chance to make me look smart or silly based on how he performs compared to Rory.
Cheers,
Luke Mangan
